I agree that specializing in a niche is important; however, I will say if that if you plan on expanding your markets it would be beneficial to do so within the same niche. For example lets say your niche is “realty short sales” (a very popular topic right now) you can expand that market to include the “forclosure listing sales” (a niche closely related to our initial market). Directing your efforts in this way will likely be a more fruitful endeavor because you aren’t starting completely from scratch. It is also possible that you wont have to rebuild your authority as an expert with this approach as the niches are related. I think the mistake that new marketers make is that they choose two completely unrelated niches. For example they might start out working in the “weight loss diet that requires no exercise” niche and then move onto “how to create and sell apps for the Iphone” niche. When evaluating your marketing strategies it is important to stay focused (like benny said ) and continue moving towards your goal and perfectting your processes.
