A Story About Eyeglasses

I just reading an article about the history of Eyeglasses. There are several references to lenses that magnified and aided vision in writings dated between 1265 and 1290, but the actual person responsible for inventing eyeglasses remains a mystery. Do you know that the original eyeglasses were only perched on the nose, with no extra means of support, we can imagines how uncomfortable for us to wear and very unsteady if the we had to do many movement.

Then four hundred years later (sometime during the 1720′s) the frames was evolved into it , what we would recognize as eyeglasses today with arms that use the wearer’s ears as the primary means of support, making glasses much more comfortable and stable to wear.

In the mid 1780′s Benjamin Franklin invented the first version of the bi-focal. It was said that Franklin was bothered by the hassle of having to constantly change glasses to be able to clearly see as he completed different tasks, so to put an end to the hassle he began work on a set of lenses that would work to correct both vision problems that he suffered from.

Today lenses have evolved with even more capability. The progressive lenses now can have any number of different correction properties set. Also The frames of eyeglasses have more improvement since the invention of eyeglasses. We can found an almost weightless frame that is practically indestructible. And also we can found an eyeglass frames that can be bent and twisted and then will just return to their originally designed shape.

I think eyeglasses are truly one of the most incredible inventions in the history of man. It has help many people that require some type of vision correction to participate in the society to do their everyday tasks.

I found this online eyeglasses shop called GlassesShop. Their Wide Selection of Eyeglasses always includes the latest trends, which means we can now have a lot of choices for our glasses. One of their feature that interesting me is their Virtual Try-On part, where we can select different type of frames and put it on a model picture or even our own photo. So we know which frames that suitable for us to wear before we buy it.

  6. Although it must be treated for impact resistance, glass still shatters when it breaks, and broken glass — even safety glass — is a hazard to the eye. Glass lenses are also a little heavier, which makes them less comfortable to wear.

Yeah, just think that something we take completely for granted like glasses is not that old. Maybe people were using some sort of glasses before but they were uncomfortable and hard to use.

  11. Spanish craftsmen create the first eyeglass frame temples in 1600. They attach ribbons of silk or strings to the frame and loop them over the wearer’s ears. Spanish and Italian missionaries carry the new types of eyeglasses to China. The Chinese attach small metal weights to the strings instead of making loops.

About your statement: The progressive lenses now can have any number of different correction properties set — I agree with this 100% – it is shocking at how far technology got us. But i also did not know that the original eyeglasses were only perched on the nose — nice article that shows detailed past of eyeclasses.

  19. I’ve heard some places are good; others have very slow delivery, etc. I’m not looking for anything fancy or expensive, basically just a spare “emergency” set of bifocals, so I’d like the cheapest I can get away with. What I’m really looking for here is any stories from people who have bought glasses online; both the “this place is good” and “stay away from this site” varieties. And yes, I’ve got the complete prescription ready, including pupil distance. Thanks!

  20. I have been wearing eye glasses for years and I always need a new pair every year or so. The coating on the glasses gets all scratched to the point where I can barely see out of them. My eye doctor told me it is the chemistry of my body making the coating wear away. I am not really 100 percent in belief with that. Any info would be great. Thank you. Also, is there anything I should keep in my glass case to help with the body chemistry thing?

  21. I am happy with my current lense strength in my eyeglasses. I just want to get a different style frame. I would like give them my existing eyeglasses and i would pick out a new frame. I was able to do this in the past, and now i can’t find a store that would do it.An eye exam would just give me thicker lenses and my eyeballs would become lazier over the years and the lenses would become thicker and thicker.

  22. Thanks for the time taken to write this blog. its suprising how much you can learn from reading blogs.

  23. Now I know about a story of eyeglasses, thanks
